Artist Statement

When one has become connected with an object there is often an immediate personal response. It is the personal connection that I am so interested in. Within a society where art is looked as more of a commodity than anything else it is my interest to create work that feels genuine. For me the most genuine and innocent idea is of childhood. All are able to remember times of their childhood or at least imagine stories, memories, emotions and the playfulness of being a child. Also, for most there is a want to connect with these past memories to a time where everything seemed simpler. I am interested in pushing the boundary of childhood and adulthood. The innocence of a child compared to the knowledge of an adult can construe how something is viewed. The interesting relationship here is how adults view something that is so reminiscent of childhood. Each person comes to my work with his or her own unique memories and experiences, and so each individual interprets the work differently. I leave the responsibility of gaining a meaning or creating a narrative up to the viewer.
